Job Title: Senior Civil Engineer

Location: Winchester, VA

Sponsorship: Yes, if they have an active P.E., are local with experience working on local projects

Salary range: $120K - Negotiable DOE

Bonus: No, they have an ESOP instead.

Relocation: Generally, no, prefer local people as they will know the state and local regulations.

Hybrid: Flexible WFH / Office

Hours: M-Fri 8:00-5:00, some flexibility.

Job order details: As described above they will manage projects and complete their own design work for civil site development projects. They will not do the day to day drafting but will expect to be able to use Civil 3D to complete the designs. It is important for them to find an engineer who has experience in the Virginia area as they will be familiar with state and local regulations.

15 people in the Winchester office. The Civil PE retired so this new hire will be the only P.E. in the Winchester office. Note, there are openings in their Chantilly office, which is 45 miles southeast of Winchester and Leesburg, 37 miles east of Winchester.

Job Description:

A Senior Civil Engineer responsible for the site layout, grading, utility design, stormwater management, erosion control, hydrologic modeling, drainage, sediment control design, plan reviews, code reviews, feasibility studies, permitting, municipal & land-use regulatory approvals and report preparation for a variety of site development projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects and tasks in the city of Winchester as well as surrounding region; this includes monitoring schedules & budgets to ensure effective completion of projects as well as client satisfaction.
  • Meet regularly with clients.
  • Preparation of proposals for new & existing clients (including estimation of project fees).
  • Oversee the development of Land Development Plans; this includes the preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specification, and engineering reports (from schematic design through construction).
  • Coordinate permits through regulatory agencies for large scale, complex projects.
  • Complete field inspections, as needed.
  • Delegate workload to Junior Engineers & Drafters; this includes mentoring / guiding Junior Engineers to develop Stormwater Management [SWM] strategies, Utility Coordination, and Erosion & Sediment Control [E&SC] Design.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or a related discipline).
  • 7+ years of professional experience working in Engineering (preferably with Land Development design projects).
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • PE license in VA (WV also preferred, reciprocity to be sought for WV upon start; will consider candidates who are able to successfully obtain their PE within 6 months of their start date).

Preferred:

  • Expertise and deep knowledge of the Land Development process in the Winchester and Martinsburg surrounding region.
  • Management and/or Project Management experience; proven ability to manage multi-discipline projects is preferred.
  • Experience working on brownfield (land redevelopment) as well as greenfield projects.
  • Experience working with stormwater management, especially while utilizing Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) modeling tools.
  • Proficiency with standard office & project management software applications: Microsoft Office 365 (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), Bluebeam Revu, etc.
  • Proven ability to work in an energetic & challenging team environment as a collaborative Team Player , especially while maintaining the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, especially when working on a variety of projects while providing solutions to difficult issues.
