Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Academic and within the context of Office of Correctional Education (OCE) Academic Program requirements, regulations, and guidelines, and under the supervision of a Supervisor of Academic Instruction, and under the direction of a credentialed academic teacher, the teaching assistant shall give support to teacher(s) by providing educational services to assigned/enrolled students. The teaching assistant’s duties involve; tutoring one-on-one sessions; facilitating small group sessions; correcting student homework, quizzes, and other class work; assisting in testing students; working with the teacher to assist with monitoring student progress; and tracking program completions.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
