Job Description

Summary : Weld sheet metal components together with Tig and fusion gas welding equipment to fabricate sheet metal/machine parts by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Dimensionally and visually inspect parts for adherence to customer requirements.
  • Reads routers, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine dimensional specifications and operating requirements.
  • Dimensionally and visually inspects parts produced to ensure meets customer requirements.
  • Performs required preventative maintenance procedures on assigned welding equipment within specified time frames.

Education and Experience:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High School Diploma or GED, experience in Aerospace welding is preferred; 0-2 years of demonstrated experience for Level 1 Welder, 2-5 years of demonstrated experience for Level 2 Welder. For level 3 Welder, 5 years of similar welding experience is required. Fusion (TIG) welding experience is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and blueprints in English is required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to weld specific metals; Inconels, stainless steel, aluminum
  • Ability to weld thickness ranging from .032-.090
  • Ability to use measuring instruments calipers, micrometers etc

· Spot weld

· Resistance weld

· Entry level position with little or no prior relevant work experience

· Acquires basic skills to perform routine entry level operator tasks to operate

· Work is prescribed and completed with little autonomy

· Works with either close supervision or under clearly defined procedures

Level 2

Demonstrates 2-5 years of experience in position or specialization

All Level 1 specialized training in addition to:

· Tig weld

· Certification in the following:

o WPT-104 4130 (5yrs)

o WPT-201 17-7 (5yrs)

o WPT-203 3G (5yrs)

o WPT-301 718 (5yrs)

o WPT-303 718 (5yrs)

o WPT-304 718 (5yrs)

o WPT-401 6061 (Yearly)

o WPT-403 6061 (Yearly)

o WPT-404 6061 (Yearly)

o WPT-701 H188 (5yrs)

o WPT-604 (5yrs)

· Has developed knowledge and skills through training or considerable work experience

· Works within established procedures with a moderate degree of supervision

· Identifies the problem and all relevant issues in straightforward situations, assesses each using standard procedures, and makes sound decisions.

· Must be capable of running the majority of jobs in the department.

Level 3

Demonstrates 5 or more years of experience in position or specialization

All level 1 and 2 specialized training in addition to:

· Titanium weld

· Has developed specialized skills or is multi-skilled through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience

· Completes work with a limited degree of supervision

· Likely to act as an informal resource for training new department operators.

· Must be capable of running all jobs in the department.

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

· Must frequently lift and or move up to 50lbs.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

· Ability to drive and operate a Forklift.
