Job Description

This position is critical for the security and protection of maritime facilities at the Alabama State Port Authority. 

Responsibilities

• Operating traffic gates, managing cargo deliveries, and maintaining detailed activity logs
• Inspect outgoing traffic to prevent unauthorized removal of cargo
• Patrol buildings, grounds, docks, and warehouses, while keeping a record of activity
• Report potential threats or hazards to life and property
• Enforce rules, detaining or expelling violators for infractions
• Performs radio-desk operator duties when required
• Document incidents, accidents, or property damage with comprehensive and accurate reports
• Enforce traffic regulations, including speeding and parking 
• Respond to incidents requiring police presence, such as labor disputes, environmental activism, civil unrest, or natural disasters
• Aid investigations of criminal activities and security breaches 
• Collaborate with state and federal authorities as necessary
• Perform additional duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

• Must hold an active certification through the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (APOST) program 
• Possession of a valid Alabama driver’s license.
• Experience involving public interaction
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to work on different shifts with different personality types
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
• Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, work above ground level, lift heavy objects, mount and dismount equipment, and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, working from prone and overhead positions, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
