MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Criminal Justice and one (1) year experience working with crime victims, or Associates degree and a minimum of two years’ experience working with crime victims. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform administrative, support, and counseling work functions associated with victim’s assistance qualification provided by the Victim’s Bill of Rights.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Identify victims and initiate contact upon receipt of incident reports, daily jail list, or Court Calendars in compliance with the Georgia Crime Victims' Bill of Rights.

• Contact victims of crime through phone or mail concerning court cases and victim rights. Assess needs, make referrals or discuss court proceedings.

• Meet with victims of crime who present in the District Attorney's Office or the Juvenile Court ADAs Office.

• Serve as liaison between victims and investigators, district attorney staff and attorneys and court personnel.

• Assess crime victims' needs and assist in arrangements for transportation, shelter, 911 emergency cell phones, door locks repair/replace, childcare or other areas as identified.

• Provide appropriate materials for victims of crime (brochures, support group fliers, local service numbers, etc.)

• Review pleas, arraignments, and bond calendars weekly for follow-up information to assist victims of crime

• Provide court accompaniment to crime victims and assistance in preparing Victim Impact Statements.

• Assist the victim and family members with understanding the process and what to expect at each stage of the case in the system.

• Assist the victim and family members with understanding all the legal terminology and strategy during the processing of the case.

• Advocate for restitution at the time of sentencing.

• Assist crime victims with registering for VINE notification and Board of pardons and Paroles information

• Assist crime victims in filling out victim compensation claim forms through the Georgia Crime Victim Compensation Program and in preparing victim impact statements.

• Establish and maintain professional rapport with DA's office staff, Law Enforcement and other agencies.

• Maintain ethical guidelines as indicated by the DA's office professional code of ethics.

• Maintain professional attire in the office and in the courtroom.

• Coordinate crime scene clean-up services through Victim's Compensation.

• Provide information and assistance with property return

• Provide post-sentence referrals and intervention as needed.

• Assist victims with safety planning.

• Provide information and advocacy regarding Temporary Protective Orders through referrals to the Salvation Army Safe House.

• Any other duties as assigned by the District Attorney.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of the practices, policies, procedures and methods of the District Attorney’s office and the Victim’s Bill of Rights; knowledge of the functions, programs and documentation associated with the Victim’s Rights; knowledge of the basic form and content of various legal instruments and documents; knowledge of the court structure and the requirements of various courts with respect to form of pleadings, briefs, filing of papers in court, etc.; knowledge of legal books and citations; knowledge of departmental functions, organization, and policies; knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; knowledge of secretarial techniques; knowledge of use of business English, grammar, punctuation, spelling and formatting of business correspondence; knowledge of filing and recordkeeping methods; knowledge of business mathematics; knowledge of standard office equipment; and knowledge of basic computer applications and techniques.

• Skill in performing secretarial work functions; skill in operating standard office equipment; skill in typing; and skill in utilizing various computer software programs relevant to the position.

• Ability to understand departmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations; ability to perform advanced secretarial operations; involving transactions requiring effective accountability and accurate records; ability to organize work activities and establish priorities; ability to carry out projects with minimal supervision; ability to maintain confidentiality of department information; ability to gather and compile data for reports; ability to maintain a calendar of activities; ability to understand and follow detailed written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to effectively screen telephone calls, visitors and mail and initiate problem resolution; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, inmates, officials, other agencies, and the general public; ability to establish and maintain effective filing systems; ability to maintain accurate bookkeeping records; ability to perform required mathematical calculations; ability to operate standard office equipment; ability to type accurately with appropriate speed; and ability to utilize various computer software programs relevant to the position.
