Job Description:
Under general direction, the Medical Technologist performs skilled, high-complexity testing and interpretation of patient samples in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation. Responsibilities include clinical production, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and collaborative instrument and assay development. The role also supports general laboratory maintenance and departmental operations.
Responsibilities:
- Independently conduct and complete routine patient testing, including review, interpretation, and reporting of results with reliability, accuracy, and integrity.
- Deliver quality laboratory services efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Assist with laboratory operations as needed, including inventory management, ordering, equipment maintenance, and method development.
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance in compliance with Vibra Health Laboratory, CLIA, and COLA standards.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and external partners.
- Troubleshoot assays and support software, assay, or instrument validations.
- Ensure timely and accurate proficiency and competency testing, reviewed by appropriate staff.
- Monitor quality control programs to maintain acceptable analytical performance for each test system.
- Report patient test results only when systems are functioning properly.
- Assist in maintaining the Laboratory Information System (LIS) by identifying needed information and resolving issues proactively.
- Develop and maintain clinical and technical knowledge in key areas.
- Support the training and development of new staff.
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety rules and standards, including the Hazardous Communication Policy for internal handling and waste disposal.
Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) or ASCP-accredited Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science program, OR a NAACLS or ASCP Categorical Technologist program in Molecular Biology (preferred).
- Completion of an accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience/training as required by ASCP Board of Registry certification (preferred).
- Additional educational standards may be determined at the discretion of the Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Director. Training, Experience, Certifications/Licensures, and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a CLIA (and COLA or CAP) certified clinical laboratory.
- Experience in research and validation of new platforms and assays.
- U.S. certification, eligibility for certification, or certification assessment by: oASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCP) oASCP Medical Technologist - MT(ASCP) oEquivalent agency certification.
- Additional experience and certification standards may be determined at the discretion of the Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Director.
- Ability to perform at a high level with minimal supervision; self-motivated
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Punctual, honest, and trustworthy with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge of quality control practices and CLIA regulations.
Travel:
- Approximately 5% travel, primarily local during business hours.
