Luxury Ranch & Resort General Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Luxury Ranch & Resort General Manager to oversee operations at our premier mountain ranch property in the majestic Teton Valley, Idaho. This unique leadership role combines traditional ranch management with luxury hospitality operations, requiring someone who can seamlessly blend authentic Western ranch experiences with world-class resort amenities and service.

Key Responsibilities

Ranch Operations Management

  • Oversee all aspects of working ranch operations including livestock management, pasture maintenance, and agricultural activities
  • Coordinate with ranch hands, wranglers, and seasonal staff to ensure efficient daily operations
  • Maintain ranch infrastructure including fencing, barns, equipment, and irrigation systems
  • Ensure compliance with all agricultural, environmental, and safety regulations

Equine Operations & Management

  • Comprehensive oversight of horse program including herd management, breeding decisions, and horse acquisition
  • Ensure highest standards of equine care including nutrition, veterinary care, farrier services, and daily health monitoring
  • Manage horse training programs and work with professional trainers to maintain safe, well-trained horses suitable for all guest skill levels
  • Coordinate equine facility maintenance including stables, arenas, round pens, and pasture management
  • Implement safety protocols for all horse-related activities and ensure staff certification and training
  • Manage feed programs, hay procurement, and seasonal pasture rotation
  • Oversee wrangler staff training and development, ensuring expertise in horsemanship and guest instruction
  • Coordinate with veterinarians for routine care, emergency situations, and preventive health programs
  • Maintain detailed records for each horse including health history, training progress, and guest suitability
  • Plan and oversee trail maintenance and development for horseback riding experiences
  • Ensure compliance with equine insurance requirements and liability management

Resort & Hospitality Operations

  • Provide exceptional guest experiences that exceed expectations while maintaining an authentic ranch atmosphere
  • Manage guest check-in/check-out, reservations, and all front-of-house operations
  • Oversee food and beverage operations including dining experiences and catered events
  • Coordinate with local vendors and service providers to enhance offerings
  • Maintain high standards of customer service across all guest touchpoints

Housekeeping & Facilities Management

  • Supervise housekeeping to ensure cleanliness and comfort in all guest accommodations
  • Maintain resort facilities including guest cabins, common areas, recreational facilities, and grounds
  • Implement and monitor quality control standards
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and property improvements
  • Ensure inventory management of linens, amenities, and cleaning supplies

Guest Activities & Programming

  • Develop and oversee activity programs that showcase ranch lifestyle and regional outdoor experiences
  • Coordinate horseback riding, cattle drives, and educational ranch activities
  • Manage seasonal outdoor programs including fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and winter sports
  • Organize ranch-themed entertainment, campfires, and cultural events
  • Partner with local outfitters and guides to expand offerings

Event Management

  • Plan and execute corporate retreats and private events
  • Coordinate logistics including catering, decorations, entertainment, and accommodations
  • Manage event budgets and vendor relationships
  • Ensure seamless execution of gatherings and large-scale events

Property Maintenance & Infrastructure

  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs for all buildings, utilities, and systems
  • Coordinate with contractors for repairs, renovations, and capital improvements
  • Manage seasonal property preparations and weather-related maintenance
  • Ensure functionality of safety systems including fire suppression, security, and emergency equipment
  • Maintain grounds, landscaping, trails, and outdoor recreation facilities
  • Oversee maintenance of pools, hot tubs, and guest amenities
  • Implement sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency practices
  • Coordinate snow removal and year-round accessibility
  • Ensure compliance with codes and regulations

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, and manage staff including ranch hands, hospitality, housekeeping, and activities teams
  • Foster a collaborative work environment with focus on guest service and safety
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional growth
  • Schedule staff to ensure proper coverage
  • Maintain competitive compensation and benefits programs

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets
  • Monitor financial performance and implement cost-control strategies
  • Maximize revenue opportunities through pricing and packaging
  • Prepare reports for ownership
  • Oversee purchasing and vendor negotiations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Agriculture, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in hospitality, resort, or ranch management; private estate experience a plus
  • Strong leadership, financial acumen, and team development experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with agricultural operations preferred
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation, guest services, and event planning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing luxury resort or guest ranch operations
  • Background in equestrian programs or Western ranch culture
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Hospitality certifications or credentials
  • Proficiency with reservation and property management systems
  • Knowledge of local compliance for agriculture and hospitality
