Job Description

About the Position:

A respected insurance defense law firm in Metairie, LA is seeking a skilled and highly organized Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant to join their fast-paced legal team. This position supports one or more attorneys with a primary focus on insurance defense litigation . The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, experienced in legal administrative procedures, and thrives in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, format, and proofread legal documents including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and correspondence
  • File legal documents with state and federal courts (electronic and traditional)
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings
  • Maintain case files, client records, and track deadlines
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and insurance adjusters
  • Assist in trial preparation, including assembling trial binders and exhibits
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, and handle administrative tasks such as billing and time entry
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with all legal procedures and firm policies

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in a law firm with a strong emphasis on insurance defense litigation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software
  • Strong knowledge of Louisiana court rules and filing procedures
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High school diploma required; associate degree or paralegal certification preferred
