Junior to Mid-Level Patent Attorney – Cutting-Edge Tech Clients | Washington, D.C.

A premier Am Law firm is seeking a Patent Associate with 1–4 years of experience in patent prosecution to join its thriving IP practice in Washington, D.C. Work directly with pioneering clients in tech and life sciences while contributing to sophisticated domestic and international IP portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

• Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications across diverse industries

• Conduct freedom-to-operate, patentability, and due diligence assessments

• Counsel clients on patent strategy and global portfolio management

• Liaise with in-house counsel, engineers, and researchers to evaluate inventions

• Remain informed of evolving legal frameworks and tech trends

• Support business development and client engagement initiatives

Qualifications:

• 1–4 years of patent prosecution experience at a law firm

• Technical background in at least one of the following:

o Electrical Engineering

o Mechanical Engineering

o Chemical Engineering

o Materials Science

o Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning

• Demonstrated interest in life sciences is preferred

• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school; strong academic record

• USPTO registration required

• Active bar membership (DC preferred)

• Excellent research, drafting, and client communication skills

• Ability to manage matters with minimal supervision
