Job Description

The Government Contracting Business Development Specialist is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing government contracts to drive business growth. This position involves conducting in-depth market research, collaborating with sales teams, and fostering relationships with key public sector stakeholders to expand the company’s presence in the government market.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Market Research and Relationship Management – 100%
  • Identify potential government opportunities through research and networking
  • Conduct market intelligence and monitor on upcoming procurements, expiring contracts, and strategic initiatives
  • Collaborate with sales teams to develop targeted business development strategies
  • Develop and nurture relationships with government agencies, prime contractors, potential team partners ,and industry stakeholders
  • Conduct training sessions for team members on best practices, tools, and strategies for government contracting and business development

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS (IF APPLICABLE)

  • Analyze data utilizing platforms like GovWin to analyze data, track industry trends, and inform business development strategies.
  • Generate leads, creating contact lists, and maintaining a database of potential opportunities for effective relationship management.

SUPERVISORY/BUDGETARY/EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITY

  • Communicates with external stakeholders, government agencies, and clients
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects
  • Department/Division budget of generally $1MM+

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of related experience
  • Proven track record in government contracting, sales and business development
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong research and analytical skills to identify opportunities and make data driven decisions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce or relative CRM systems
  • Working knowledge of document management systems
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with government agencies, prime contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the public sector.
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and conditions in contracts and partnerships
  • Proficiency in creating and delivering compelling presentations to stakeholders
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and compliance in all activities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
