Job Description

Title: Family Services Director

 

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary Range: $65,000-$80,000

Benefits Stipend: $500 monthly, included in paycheck

 

About Family Promise Rochester:

Family Promise Rochester is the leading nonprofit organization addressing the issue of children and families experiencing homelessness in Olmsted County. Family Promise Rochester provides a holistic approach geared toward keeping families in their homes, providing shelter at our Promise House when necessary, and supporting families on their way back to stable housing. Our solution involves a community-based response that can be tailored to the unique needs of each family our organization walks alongside.

Position Description: 

The Director of Family Services provides strategic leadership and oversight of supportive services for families experiencing homelessness. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that promote housing stability and family well-being. The Director will lead a team of case managers, engage with community partners, and ensure the organization’s services meet the highest standards of quality, effectiveness, and compassion.

Program Development and Evaluation

  • Design and implement diversion, in-shelter, and stabilization programs to promote housing stability and family well-being.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor outcomes, improve services, and support continuous improvement. 
  • Ensure programs are trauma-informed, culturally competent, and adhere to best practices in family services.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational goals and community needs.

 

Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local service providers, government agencies, school districts, and community stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at community events, coalitions, and policy forums related to family homelessness and support services.
  • Promote public awareness and advocate for the needs of families experiencing homelessness.
  • Actively work to increase access to affordable and safe housing options for families experiencing homelessness through advocacy, partnership development, and resource coordination.

 

Case Management Oversight

  • With the Executive Director, supervise a team of case managers, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure high-quality, client-centered case management that empowers families toward housing stability.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that support consistency, accountability, and ethical practice.
  • Provide direct case management support as needed, particularly in complex or high-need situations, to ensure continuity of care and model best practices.

 

Grant Writing and Management

  • Identify funding opportunities and contribute to the development of grant proposals to support family services.
  • Monitor and report on programmatic outcomes to funders and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and maintain accurate documentation.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Human Services, or a related field preferred; a bachelor’s degree in a related field with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in social services, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of family homelessness, trauma-informed care, and housing-focused case management.
  • Demonstrated success in program development, community collaboration, and grant writing.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and manage sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular on-site interaction with staff and clients.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours for community meetings, events, or shelter coverage.
  • Must be able to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and have proper auto insurance; some travel required to attend partner meetings and site visits.
