Job Description

Major, Lindsey & Africa has an exciting opportunity for a highly-skilled and objective-oriented individual to join the Legal Department of our corporate client. Must be licensed by the State Bar of Texas and possess at least four years of relevant work experience. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to work independently, will demonstrate strong experience in contracting and process management, display strong organizational abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and effective oral and written communication. The ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities across a range of industries is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a fully integrated member of the Legal Department supporting various business units in contract procurement, drafting, negotiation and implementation/management.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, requests for proposals, and other complex commercial transactions.
  • Review proposals and project procurement documents.
  • Draft, review and negotiate agreements such as master services agreements, subcontracts and vendor/supplier contracts.
  • Research and prepare appropriate and effective legal opinions, memoranda, and other documents.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in mid-sized or large law firm, or similar experience in a corporate legal department in one or more of the following areas: construction law, governmental contracting, or general transactional practice.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, research and writing skills.
  • Strong work ethic, high degree of integrity, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment with attorneys, other staff members and business unit management.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and energetic entrepreneurial environment with the potential for tight timelines and schedule changes and adapt accordingly.
  • A self-starter who demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously, in an organized manner and under minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite applications (including Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • JD from U.S.-accredited law school.
  • Bar admission in the State of Texas.
  • Primary work location in Houston, Texas.
