Senior Civil-Structural Engineer/Designer

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid – 3 days in-office, 2 remote)

Licensure: PE License in Texas or Louisiana required

Position Overview

The Senior Civil-Structural Engineer/Designer will play a crucial role in designing and delivering industrial infrastructure and plant construction projects, primarily in the Gulf Coast and across the U.S. This role requires a minimum of 10 years of EPC experience and strong expertise in hydraulic and hydrological design .

The engineer will be responsible for preparing estimates, developing scope of work documents, conducting technical reviews, and providing design input across all project phases, including proposal, geotechnical investigation, engineering, bid, and construction. The position will also involve collaborating with project and engineering teams to ensure that all designs align with our client's budget, schedule, and quality standards .

This is a schedule-driven role , requiring flexibility for early morning or late-night calls to support projects and stakeholders across different time zones.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Perform engineering and design for civil-structural aspects of industrial plants, ensuring compliance with project specifications and national codes (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC).
• Conduct hydrological and hydraulic design for stormwater and effluent systems, including detention/retention basins, sediment basins, hydraulic structures, and conveyances .
• Design concrete structures, steel structures, piles, and anchorage as required.
• Review and verify inputs from internal/external design team members and vendors, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Support interdisciplinary aspects such as piping, electrical, and instrumentation to ensure project integration.

Project & Construction Support

• Prepare estimates and scope of work documents for civil-structural design .
• Assist project teams in resolving civil-structural issues that arise during engineering and construction phases.
• Interface with EPC firms and contractors to ensure project deliverables align with our client's scope, budget, and schedule.
• Review and approve vendor and fabricator shop drawings .
• Answer RFIs (Requests for Information) and TQs (Technical Queries) as needed.
• Lead responsible charge duties for civil-structural scope.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

• Work closely with the in-house Engineering Delivery team and third-party contractors to ensure efficient project execution.
• Identify design improvements and implement best practices for structural engineering.
• Contribute to enhancements in methodologies for dynamic equipment, cooling towers, and piling design .
• Ensure compliance with local regulations and standards for industrial plant site development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (PE preferred) or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience in an EPC setting , with a focus on industrial plant design and site development.
• PE License in Texas or Louisiana (or ability to obtain via comity/reciprocity).
• Experience with projects ranging from $5M to $1B .
• Ability to travel up to 25% for project locations and engineering offices.
• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required our client's safety standards.

Technical Skills & Tools

• Civil-3D, StormCAD, HEC-RAS, Atlas 13 & 14 (Texas)
• AutoCAD, SmartPlant Review, Navisworks
• Structural Design Software: STAAD, Mat3D
• Strong knowledge of national building codes (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC)
• Google Suite proficiency for documentation and collaboration

Work Schedule & Interview Process

• Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office (Houston), 2 days remote
• Flexible availability: Some early morning or late-night calls may be required
