Job Description

CornerStone Staffing has partnered with The City of Dallas seeking an Airport Operations Officer Internship Program is designed to introduce future airport managers to the many facets of airport operations at a medium-hub Commercial Service Airport.

The intern will work under the general direction of the Manager – Airport Operations and Safety and will gain hands-on experience in airside and terminal operations, airport safety, and working as an Airport Operations Duty Manager.

Location: Dallas Love Field Airport

Pay Rate: $20.05 per hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Program Description

Interns will participate in daily airport operations and safety activities, with work reviewed through daily tasks, projects, conferences, and report analysis . The internship will last up to twenty-four (24) weeks , working 40 hours per week . Interns may be required to work rotating shifts to complete the training program and assigned duties.

Essential Functions

  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns regarding airport operations, services, and other resources.
  • Address noise complaints and other issues from surrounding communities and neighborhoods.
  • Conduct FAA compliance inspections to ensure the airport meets all operational standards.
  • Inspect facilities for maintenance issues to ensure public safety and aesthetic upkeep of the airport.
  • Maintain and track records of communications and incidents for proper documentation and resolution.
  • Input and submit work orders for airport maintenance and ensure timely completion.
  • Act as a liaison between the department and airport tenants, providing guidance on airport policies and safety procedures.
  • Respond to alerts and emergency situations, coordinating with various agencies to ensure safety and mitigate impact on airport operations.
  • Gain hands-on experience with the FAA Part 139 Safety Management System (SMS), including risk assessments, data entry, and analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in aviation management, aviation safety, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Senior students in their final semester of an accredited program in aviation management, aviation safety, or a related discipline may also apply.
  • Selected candidates must be highly motivated and interested in pursuing a career in airport management.
  • Must pass a TSA background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) as part of the training program.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must have time management, emergency response, public relations, problem resolution, customer service, safety management, and safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • Per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5210-20, candidates must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the English language.
  • General knowledge of airport operations principles and practices, including general aviation facilities and services.
  • Basic understanding of FAR Part 139 and TSR 1542 regulations.
  • Ability to pass the airfield operations movement and non-movement area written and practical examination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

 

Work Environment

This position requires working in various climatic conditions and exposure to noise, chemicals, aircraft fuel, degreasers, deicers, and other contaminants. Interns may encounter moving mechanical hazards, temperature extremes, and varying weather conditions.

Interns must be able to:

  • Safely lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods
  • Stoop, bend, reach, and operate objects, tools, or controls
  • Adjust focus and have close vision capabilities
